A Message From Our President
Ports and Terminals Luncheon Report
June 3, 2010
Eighty PTA members and guests attended the annual Ports and Terminals
Luncheon, held this year on June 3, 2010, at Scott's Seafood Restaurant in
Jack London Square, Oakland. Our guest speaker was John Hummer, Gateway
Director for Northern California and Mid Pacific, Maritime Administration (MARAD).
John explained the second round of the Transportation Investment Generating
Economic Recovery grant program for national infrastructure investments,
known as "TIGER II" grants. He also spoke about plans for the the Marine
Highway, or Short Sea Shipping, in Northern California. John praised the
audience for raising several thought-provoking questions that must be
addressed as this new transportation program is implemented.
The PTA's mission is to bring transportation users and providers together
for dialogue on key industry issues, and this event certainly fit the bill.
